The Chamberlain Group, Inc. Acquires Merlin Garage Door Openers

In another major industry move, Merlin Garage Door Openers, the largest dedicated door operator manufacturer based in Australia and New Zealand, has been acquired by The Chamberlain Group, Inc., headquartered in Elmhurst, Ill. The announcement was made by Chamberlain’s CEO, J. David Rolls. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
Chamberlain is the world’s largest manufacturer of residential garage door openers and commercial door operators, as well as a leader in the manufacturing of residential and industrial gate openers and related access control products.
Merlin, headquartered in Auckland, New Zealand, has been privately owned and operated by Grant O’Malley for more than 17 years. The company has established a wide presence in retail and professional channels for residential garage door operator products. O’Malley will continue to manage the business under Chamberlain’s new ownership.
According to Rolls, the acquisition of Merlin extends Chamberlain’s global position in residential and industrial automation solutions. Chamberlain also recently announced the acquisition of Grifco Precision Products, the largest manufacturer of industrial door operators in Australia and New Zealand.
“Merlin has built a strong position serving the retail and professional installer markets of the door operator industry in Australia and New Zealand,” Rolls said. “With Chamberlain’s worldwide resources and distribution, we can enhance Merlin’s resources that are already dedicated to serving retailers, installers and door manufacturers.”
